Palm Springs has some of the best examples of Midcentury Modern Architecture anywhere and celebrates this esthetic during Modernism Week. OregonWest will travel to Palm Springs for the beautiful weather, a fantastic National Park, beautiful sights, fun activities, great food, and this February, for Modernism Week. Join us for a fun adventure in the winter sun!
Itinerary
Day 1 – Sunday, February 16: Arrive in Palm Springs
Today we will leave Portland in the early afternoon on a direct flight and arrive in Palm Springs by 5PM. We will check into our hotel and then have a great dinner together in downtown Palm Springs. This will be a great way to kick off a fun week in the sun. (D)
Day 2 – Monday, February 17: Aerial Tram & Wind Turbine Tour
After breakfast at the hotel we will head out on our way to the Palm Springs Aerial Tram. The exhilarating ride on the world’s largest rotating tram car travels over two-and-one-half miles along the breathtaking cliffs of Chino Canyon, transporting riders to the pristine wilderness of the Mt. San Jacinto State Park. At the top there are viewpoints, exhibits, and miles of trails to explore. We will eat lunch with a view before descending on the tram. We will take a short journey to a Wind Turbine Farm for an informative tour before heading back to the hotel to freshen up before dinner in downtown. (B, L, D)
Day 3 – Tuesday, February 18: Joshua Tree National Park
This morning we will have an earlier start as we prepare for our tour of the Joshua Tree National Park. This will be a great way to see some of the most incredible areas of this huge park. There will be opportunities to get out and walk around some of the Joshua Trees and rock formations as we explore. We will have lunch and return to downtown Palm Springs. There will be time to either rest or explore downtown prior to dinner on the town in one of Palm Springs many excellent restaurants. (B, L, D)
Day 4 – Wednesday, February 19: Cowboy Cruisin’
This morning there will be time in downtown to explore or grab a date milkshake with a bit of free time to enjoy the shopping or exhibits that Palm Springs has to offer. Lunch will be on your own and we will come together as a group in the afternoon to head out to a Wagon Train Dinner in the desert outside of town. A covered wagon tour and some good cowboy grub with music and dancing will take us into the night. Enjoy sitting around the campfire before returning to town. (B, D) , L, D)
Day 5 – Thursday, February 20: Village Fest and Midcentury Modern
Today enjoy time in town with Midcentury events and the Palm Springs classic, Village Fest. The Midcentury Modern Week events have not yet been released, but we are keeping time in the schedule for architectural tours, cocktail receptions, classic car shows, or open houses. We will have lunch as a group today and spend the day immersed in Midcentury Culture. This evening after dinner, enjoy strolling the streets during Village Fest before returning to the hotel. Day 6 – Friday, February 21: Heading Back Home
This morning we will have breakfast at the hotel and then head to the Palm Springs International Airport and the short direct flight home. As always, a luxury motor coach will be waiting to escort guests back to their pick up locations. (B)
