Day 1 – Thursday December 29th – Home to Long Beach CA
Welcome to sunny California, we’ll make our way to luggage claim, and our luxury motor coach. Next, we’ll make a photo stop at the Wayfarers Chapel… Nestled in a grove of towering redwood trees, the natural sanctuary made of Palos Verdes stone, redwood and glass was designed by architect Lloyd Wright. The Chapel’s organic architecture gives unique expression to the sanctuary as a sacred space that welcomes all with its breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The 3.5 acres of the Chapel grounds feature beautifully landscaped gardens, trees forming arbored walkways, a reflection pool with a memorial fountain, a colonnade, a rose garden with walkways of engraved pavers, a hillside stream and a visitors center. Day 2 – Friday December 30th – Long Beach to Catalina Island
We will depart for Catalina Island via high-speed ferry (the Catalina Express). From adventure to luxury, Catalina Island has it all! From the picturesque town of Avalon to the rustic village of Two Harbors, Avalon is filled with activities on land and sea. Enjoy lunch on your own in the quaint town of Avalon with many restaurants, shops and more! Later this afternoon we meet up for a renowned Casino Walking Tour. Take a trip down memory lane to the days when bands were big and movies were just beginning to talk. The Catalina Casino epitomizes everything glamorous about Santa Catalina Island. You will see the extraordinary Art Deco murals and a classic 1929 pipe organ inside the Avalon Theatre, which still shows nightly movies on its massive screen. A short film is shown highlighting the history of this iconic building and its Hollywood connection. You will then continue up to the beautiful and world-famous Casino Ballroom, a masterpiece of design and a long-standing venue for the world’s best musical performers and big bands. The ballroom’s “Romance Promenade” offers some of the most spectacular views of Avalon and for decades it has been considered the most romantic spot in Avalon. Our home for the next three nights is the Pavilion Hotel in the center of town… enjoy the central courtyard with swaying palms, tropical flowers and cozy fire rings… is a great spot to gather while you share memories of the day. Tonight, enjoy dinner at the Avalon Grill, a relaxed upscale atmosphere overlooking the Avalon Bay. The Pavilion (B, D)
Day 3 – Saturday December 31st – Catalina Island – Happy 2023
This morning we will take a Submarine Tour; it is a window into another world! Catalina Island is famous for crystal clear water. See what lives in the Pacific waters surrounding Catalina Island on an underwater cruise. As you sit comfortably in a climate-controlled cabin on board a large boat, you’ll glide five feet below the surface to look for marine life in their natural habitat. Lunch is at Antonio’s Pizzeria & Deli… Step back into an authentic 50’s-style pizzeria and deli at Original Antonio’s, located a 1/2 block from the bay. Your afternoon is free to explore or rest up for the fun night ahead!
The Gala is on! Ring in the new year with an elegant evening of dining and dancing at the 49th Annual New Year’s Eve Gala Celebration in the world-famous Casino Ballroom on Catalina Island. Dress in your finest and step back in time to the ambiance of the Casino Ballroom’s stylish sophistication. Musical entertainment will be provided by The Perfect Event’s Christien Anthony Band. They feature 9 incredible musicians, playing everything from Big Band music to contemporary & pop to appeal to guests of all ages. The New Year’s Eve Gala includes a gourmet buffet dinner and dessert, dancing, one champagne split per person, party favors and the classic midnight balloon drop! The Pavilion (B, L, D)
Day 4 – Sunday January 1st, 2023!
Enjoy breakfast and a leisurely morning before climbing aboard an open-air biofuel Hummer, experience this exciting expedition into Catalina’s rugged interior. This year we will be exploring the East End of the Island Climb in to our unique, open-air, biofuel H1 Hummer for an unforgettable trip to the summit above Avalon. Traveling to 1,500 feet above sea level, you’ll enjoy a birds-eye view of romantic Catalina Island and the ocean beyond. This tour travels five miles up rugged interior terrain, where you will experience spectacular views of the coastline and deep canyons below. Lined by beautiful eucalyptus trees, the tour winds its way back along the Summit Road into Avalon. Enjoy some time to rest up at the hotel or explore on your own before we head to Steve’s Steak House for our fabulous farewell dinner. The Pavilion (B, D)
Day 5 – Monday January 2nd – Catalina Island to Home
We’ll board the Catalina Express to Long Beach, where our coach will be waiting. We’ll make our way to LAX and home with great memories of a relaxing and beautiful vacation. (B)
