Overview
Day 1 – Friday, October 10: Mount Hood Scenic Railway
Our Executive Coach will sail our guests into the gorge, with a stop to admire the views on our way to Hood River. The group will have lunch and sample either cider or wine before a short trip to the station for the Mount Hood Scenic Railway. The train will chug along some beautiful scenery, with changes in foliage sure to be evident, and have a layover at the fruit company. Once back in Hood River, guests will check into the Hampton Inn & Suites, located on Hood River and the Nichols Boat Basin, for the first two nights of our journey. After checking in, the guests will have dinner in town as a group. (L, D)
Day 2 – Saturday, October 11: WAAAM & Hood River Harvest Festival
This morning after breakfast at the hotel, the group will head to the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAAM) for Second Saturday. This is a fantastic opportunity to see automobiles and even airplanes in action, weather dependent, of course. Antique automobiles and airplanes are brought out of the hangars and are available for rides around the facilities, or airplane rides for a fee. In 2024, four OregonWest travelers flew in an antique biplane over the Gorge – the pictures are incredible! The group will then head to the annual Hood River Harvest Festival featuring dozens of vendors of food and crafts. Lunch will be on your own so you can sample from the vendors that you wish. After free time at the Harvest Fest, head with the group to sample wine from the Oregon side of the Gorge and then freshen up at the hotel. Dinner will again be in Hood River as a group. (B, D)
Day 3 – Sunday, October 12: Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Washington State Fun
After breakfast, the group will check out of the hotel and head towards The Dalles, stopping at a viewpoint to get a good look at this section of the Columbia River Gorge. The group will visit the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center to take in the history of the region before lunch as a group in The Dalles. From here, the group will venture over to the Washington side of the Gorge to peruse the small towns and scenic views and sample the wines grown on the north side of the Columbia. Guests will check in at Skamania Lodge, home for the next two nights, and then drive into town for dinner as a group. A wonderful rest awaits at the Skamania Lodge tonight. (B, L, D)
Day 4 – Monday, October 13: Columbia Gorge Museum and Skamania Lodge
This morning breakfast will be at the Skamania Lodge and then the group will head to the Columbia Gorge Museum in Stevenson to see a lesser visited Gorge attraction. The group will have lunch and capture more magnificent views before heading back for free time to enjoy Skamania Lodge. Dinner tonight will be at the Lodge, a perfect place to relax and reflect on a magnificent trip. (B, L, D)
Day 5 – Tuesday, October 14: Journey Home
This morning, the group will enjoy a leisurely breakfast and morning at Skamania Lodge. After checking out, head back to the Oregon side of the river with one more quick stop for a classic treat – icecream at the Sugarpine Drive-In. The group will then head back to Tualatin, Woodburn, and Salem. (B)
