The US Capitol is an amazing place to visit and if you time it right not only do you get to enjoy the grandeur of the National Mall and Capitol buildings, but you can enjoy them during the height of the Cherry Blossom Festival. The cherry trees will be blooming, you will enjoy the most iconic places in and around Washington DC and, of course, will be surrounded by the great OregonWest travel community while enjoying great accommodations, food and incredible activities. What to Expect on this Tour:
Day 1 – March 31, 2025 – Arrive in Washington DC
Today, we will get an early start and make our way to the airport from our three main pick-up points. Once we arrive in Washington DC, we will check into our hotel, freshen up and head out for the tour kick-off dinner at a restaurant near the hotel. Tonight rest and get ready for a fabulous experience in and around this impressive city. If you are traveling from a different location, not a problem. We can help you with your air tickets and ensure you are ready to start the tour!
Day 2 – April 1, 2025 – Smithsonian Institute & Ford’s Theater
After starting with a nice breakfast at the hotel, the group will make their way to the Smithsonian Institute where you will be able to choose which museums you want to enjoy over the next several hours. Grab a bite to eat at one of the museums with a cafeteria and be ready to come back as a group in the afternoon. After the museum, you will visit the historic Ford’s Theater where President Lincoln met his end. After some time at the hotel to freshen up, we will head to a local restaurant for dinner and enjoy hearing about everyone’s experiences today.
Day 3 – April 2, 2025 – Cruise the Potomac to Mt. Vernon
Start off with a breakfast at the hotel and get ready for a cruise up the Potomac River to Mt. Vernon – President Washington’s estate. Enjoy the grounds and the history of Mt. Vernon before we have lunch and return to Washington DC along the Potomac. The Cherry Blossoms will be out in full, so get ready to take pictures. This afternoon you will have some free time before the group enjoys a dinner together at a local restaurant.
Day 4 – April 3, 2025 – Old Town Alexandria & Monuments at Night
Enjoy breakfast and a more leisurely morning today. Our first activity will be to visit Arlington National Cemetery for the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After witnessing this important event, the group will head to Old Town Alexandria. While in Alexandria, we will have lunch on the wharf and then visit the Historic Carlyle House. This afternoon you are welcome to join a walking tour of Alexandria or explore the village on your own. There are many historically interesting places within a couple of blocks of the Carlyle House. Before returning to Washington DC enjoy a group dinner at the famed Gadsby’s Tavern. As one final treat on this spectacular day, after dinner, the group will take an evening open-top bus tour of the National Monuments.
Day 5 – April 4, 2025 – The Capitol Mall
Grab breakfast this morning before the group makes their way by coach to the Capitol Mall to visit the US Capitol Building, the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court Building. Enjoy lunch on your own at the Capitol Cafe today as well. This afternoon you will have some time on your own at the hotel or to explore the Capitol Buildings a little more. Tonight you will take an evening dinner cruise on the Potomac for an opportunity to see the city from a different perspective.
Day 6 – April 5, 2025 Monuments Exploration and Home
After enjoying a final breakfast at the hotel, the group will take some time to explore the monuments up close. Enjoy a walk through the memorials and monuments before coming together as a group for one final lunch. After lunch, you will be taken to the airport for the flight home. Arrival in Portland will be in the evening.
