Itinerary

Day One – Nov. 6, 2024: Arrive in Austin
Fly non-stop from PDX late morning and arrive in Austin where we will fly downtown and check into the Hilton Garden Inn Austin University. After getting settling into your comfortable surroundings, we head out for a Welcome Dinner of some traditional SW cuisine.

Day Two – Nov. 7, 2024: Austin Capitol, LBJ Library, History, and Country Music

Head just down the street to tour the LBJ Presidential Library and Texas State Capitol before a sit down lunch. In the afternoon, we stay in downtown with our visit to the Bullock History Museum before returning to the hotel for a short rest. In the evening we will dive headlong into Texas culture with food and honky-tonk played from a stage that has seen the likes of Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton. Tonight you can Two-step to the tunes at the Broken Spoke, and if you do not know how, they will teach you! After a great night of music and dancing, kick up your heels and rest.

Day Three – Nov. 8, 2024: Texas Hill Country: Johnson City and Fredericksburg
After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and hit the road for Johnson City and Fredericksburg. Visit the boyhood home of LBJ (hence ‘Johnson City’) and then grab a bite and refuel at Pecan Street Brewing before heading out to the LBJ Ranch.

The remainder of the afternoon will be in and around the Hill Country town of Fredericksburg, a historic town influenced by its German founders, country music legends, and the center of the blossoming Texas Wine Industry. This evening we check into the beautiful Hangar Hotel for a blast from the past at the Officers Club.

Day Four – Nov. 9, 2024: Hill Country History, Wine, and Dude Ranch

Breakfast will be in the airport runway retro diner and then we will say goodbye to the Hangar Hotel. The morning will be spent at the amazing National Museum of the Pacific War and followed by lunch and wine tasting at Signor Vineyards to sample an Oregonian’s twist on Texas wine!

In the afternoon, we will arrive at the Knibbe Dude Ranch, now run by its 5th generation owner. There, we have a tour of the 1000 acre ranch, featuring stops at the prehistoric nomadic Indian digs and Buffalo Jump. We will dig into a cowboy BBQ dinner of smoked brisket, chicken breasts, and all the fixin’s. We will cap the Dude Ranch visit off with some Wild West entertainment. A short drive to San Antonio will bring us to check into the Drury Hotel on the famous Riverwalk.

Day 5 – Nov. 10, 2024: San Antonio Riverwalk

Explore the Riverwalk via boat and foot. The morning through mid-afternoon will be at your leisure to use your boat ferry passes to explore the sites along the Riverwalk. In the afternoon, we will meet and head to the Market Square and the San Fernando Cathedral prior to dinner. The rest of the evening will be free to continue exploring.

Day 6 – Nov. 11, 2024: San Antonio Gardens, Missions, and Alamo Private Entry

The morning will pass at the Witte Museum and the adjacent San Antonio Botanical Gardens.

After lunch, explore San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, encompassing four Spanish colonial missions. Enjoy your time outside the city to immerse yourself in stories from the early settlers, the stunning architecture, and experience the unique blend of Spanish and indigenous cultures that shaped San Antonio’s identity.

After dinner, visit San Antonio’s most iconic location, the Alamo, after hours. Your private entry to the Alamo will be the perfect way to spend the last evening in Texas!

Day 7 – Nov. 12, 2024: Barbecue Throwdown and Journey Home

A leisurely morning in San Antonio allows you to enjoy the Riverwalk one last time . After checkout from the hotel, we will start making our way back to Austin for the flight home, but this trip would not be complete without seeing the Barbecue Capitol of Texas, Lockheart, for a late lunch BBQ sampling. After we compare some delicious smoked meats, we will make our way back to the Austin International Airport for our direct flight back home!
