Day 1 – Wednesday, September 13th – Home to Richmond
Today is our travel day. We will arrive in Richmond and have time to enjoy a nice lunch before checking in to the hotel. After checking into the hotel, the afternoon and evening will be yours to enjoy. The Graduate, Richmond, VA (L)
Day 2 – Thursday, September 14th – Tours and Exploration
Today we will begin with a guided tour of the historic Virginia Capitol building, where you will learn about the state’s rich political history and see the impressive architecture of this landmark building. After the tour, we will enjoy a delicious lunch at a local eatery, where you can savor some of Virginia’s famous cuisine. Next, we will head to the Maymont Mansion, a beautiful estate with stunning gardens and a historic mansion. We’ll take a guided tour of the mansion learning the fascinating history of the Maymont family and estate. In the afternoon, you will have some time to relax at the hotel or explore the area on your own. In the evening, we will enjoy dinner at a locally renowned restaurant, where you can sample some of Virginia’s savory food and enjoy the company of your fellow travelers. Day 3 – Friday, September 15th – Charlottesville and Monticello
Sit back and relax as we make our way through the picturesque Virginia countryside on the way to Charlottesville for a delectable lunch at one of the city’s fine restaurants. After lunch we will head to Monticello, the iconic home of Thomas Jefferson. Our expert guide lead us on a behind-the-scenes tour of Monticello, giving a glimpse into the life and legacy of one of America’s founding fathers. We’ll explore the stunning gardens, walk through the beautiful rooms of the mansion, and learn about Jefferson’s vision for his home and his country. After Monticello, we’ll make our way back to Richmond and the Graduate hotel. Located in the heart of the city, the Graduate is the perfect place to unwind after a day of sightseeing. You’ll have the evening free to explore the city’s many dining options, from classic Southern fare to trendy farm-to-table eateries. The Graduate, Richmond, VA (B, L)
Day 4 – Saturday, September 16th – Colonial Williamsburg & Virginia Beach
Welcome to Colonial Williamsburg, where history comes alive and you can immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and experiences of colonial America. Today, you’ll have the opportunity to choose your own tours and explore the many attractions that this living history museum has to offer. Start your day by strolling down Duke of Gloucester Street, the main thoroughfare of Colonial Williamsburg. See costumed reenactors going about their daily activities, from blacksmiths to shopkeepers to politicians. You can choose to visit any of the historic homes and buildings along the street, such as the Governor’s Palace or the Peyton Randolph House, and learn about the lives of the people who lived and worked in colonial Virginia. For lunch, you can choose from a variety of dining options within Colonial Williamsburg, ranging from taverns serving hearty colonial fare to more modern cafes and restaurants. We will head to Virginia Beach after our day at Colonial Williamsburg and check into our new hotel right on the beach. This evening we will enjoy a fine dinner together. Day 5 – Sunday, September 17th – Norfolk and Virginia Beach
Welcome to a day filled with adventure and discovery. Our first stop is the Military Aviation Museum, where you’ll embark on a guided tour of one of the largest collections of World War I and II aircraft in the world. See classic planes up close, such as the Spitfire, Messerschmitt, and Mustang, and learn about the history of aviation and its impact on military strategy and tactics. After our tour, we’ll make our way to Virginia Beach, where you’ll have some free time to explore the famous boardwalk and have lunch on your own. You’ll also have plenty of dining options to choose from, ranging from casual beachside eateries to fine dining restaurants. Later, we’ll head to the National Maritime Center Naval Museum, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the history of the US Navy and its role in defending our nation’s freedom. The museum features interactive exhibits, displays, and artifacts showcasing the Navy’s past and present, including a tour of the Battleship Wisconsin, one of the largest and last battleships built by the Navy. As the sun begins to set, we’ll join a dinner cruise on the Elizabeth River. You’ll enjoy a delicious meal, live music, and stunning views of the Norfolk skyline and waterfront. It’s the perfect way to cap off a day filled with adventure, history, and natural beauty. Hotel TBD (on the beach) (B,D)
Day 6 – Monday, September 18th – Virginia Beach
After breakfast, the day is yours. Enjoy the stunning beauty of the Virginia Beach coastline, relax in and around the hotel’s pool and have the time to explore or relax. Day 7 – Tuesday, September 19th – Virginia Beach to Home
After breakfast, we will make our way to the airport and head home full of memories of good food, good friends and fun activities! Come join us for an exciting trip to Virginia to explore and relax at the best time of year to visit! (B)
